What is soap box Derby?
Soap box Derby is a fun sport for boys and girls ages 8-17 years old. There are three divisions of cars which get progressively larger: Stock (8-13 yrs.), Super Stock (10-17 yrs.) and Masters (10-17 yrs.). Children participate in rally races for fun or to earn points to qualify for a National event in Akron, OH. These rally races are held in a variety of locations, such as Vallejo, Palo Alto, Ventura, and Santa Maria. A second way to qualify for Akron is to win a Local Championship in your area (Tuolumne), each division winner from this race qualifies to go to Akron. Racers are not obligated to go to akron but have earned their spot there. Building a car is meant to be a fun activity for both parent and child, though the younger the child the more the adult/ parent will need to be involved.
